La Carota

Jan. 2022

Ciao fellow Club Paesano Members,

As always, I hope that this edition of LaCarota finds you all feeling happy, healthy and safe! Hope that you are all getting ready for Christmas that is just a few days away. We may even get a white Christmas this year. Families are busy getting trees, lights and decorations up as we await the day that Jesus Christ was born. It’s also hard to believe that I’m writing my 12th edition of “LaCarota”. Feels like I just sat down yesterday to write my very 1st one.

Christmas Dinner

I was so happy that we were able to have our Annual Members Christmas Dinner this year, after having to cancel last year. We had a fantastic turnout. About 180 members and families. It was so nice to see everyone there and beautiful to watch everyone having a great time and celebrating the occasion. We were able to follow tradition, by saying good bye and hello to outgoing and new board members. We welcomed in our newest Club Paesano members, from this year and last year. We awarded our latest “Member of the Year”, (Thank you) and we were able to sing our list of favorite Christmas carols, including “The 12 Days of Christmas and the always popular “Domenic the Christmas Donkey”. Members come to the dinner, just to sing about good Ol “Domenic”. LoL! The evening was topped off by a visit from Santa Clause coming all the way from the North Pole to give us an early visit.

Dinner was terrific and had everyone full. Can’t wait to get them back again.

Special thanks to all the members that came out that Saturday to help set up, decorate and then tear down and put things away at the end of the evening. Much appreciated. I’d also like to give a special shout out to Mike Farley & Chelle Ordway, for spending the evening behind the bar, serving us drinks all night. Very much appreciated, and saved us from having to hire someone. Thank You!

Superbowl 2022

As of now, I’m sad to say that Superbowl 2022 will not be taking place at the club.

There was a double booking of the hall, and unfortunately the clients that booked can’t change their date. If this client happens to cancel and the hall becomes available again, we will re-schedule the Superbowl and I will get an email out as soon as I hear something. Sorry to all of you that were planning on coming.

Carnevale Dance

Our “Carnevale Dance” is still set to take place on Saturday February 26th 2022

You can now go to our website at to purchase tickets. Looking for a great Christmas present or stocking stuffer? Why not get them a couple of tickets to the dance. Well worth the price and a very entertaining evening. You’ll be a hit by giving these as a gift! It’s never too early to start buying tickets, inviting guests and getting the word out. Start hanging fliers and post to your Social Media accounts. Let’s try to make our 1st event of the year a “Sell Out”! (Flier Attached) As always, we will be following all of the “Covid” rules and regulations that are in place. Masks, Social distancing and hand sanitizer are strongly recommended.

Fun Committee

The “Fun Committee” got together for a fun night this past Saturday. We all met at the “Christmas Bazar” in Vancouver.  It was an enjoyable event with about 90 vendors, music, dancing, food and drink. Many of us got to do some Christmas shopping for our last-minute gifts as well as having some Christmas cheer. We then left the Bazar, and went to a Mexican restaurant down the street. A Fun, enjoyable evening for those that came. If you haven’t made it out to one of our events yet, do yourself a favor and try to make it. A great way to get to talk to and know your fellow members outside of the club and Cedarville Lodge. We will be planning more events in the upcoming year, so stay tuned. We are always looking for new ideas, so if you have one and would like to see it take place, then please let us know. We can take the lead on it, or help you to make it happen.

We are still gathering for our “Monday Night Social” at the club. This is open to all members, so if you are in the area and feel like stopping in for a bite to eat and a drink, please do so. It’s a great time. Remember that the 1st Monday of the month is a chance for members to bring in a “non-member” guest. Maybe a potential member to be? A good way to show your family and friends the club and to meet some of your fellow members. Don’t be a stranger.

Paesano Bocce Club

I’m very happy to announce, that the Bocce Club started construction on our two newest courts. We’ve laid the concrete down. In a few months we will place the carpeting and boards and will be ready to open them up for our upcoming 2022 Season. I personally can’t wait. The Bocce Club Board of Directors has been working hard to make this happen and it’s finally coming to reality.  If you are interested in joining our leagues or starting a team, please go to our website at or talk to one of our board members. Mario Pompei, Dino Gavazza, Doug Burchak, or myself. We’d be happy to speak with you and answer any questions you may have. As you know, in building these new courts, we are draining our savings to get them done. That being said, we are always looking to raise money. Not only through our leagues, but through selling personalized pavers, tee shirts, hats and signs (family or business advertising). Again, all great Christmas gifts too. We also except monetary donations. We are looking for sponsors for tournaments and advertising. If you work for a company or run your own business and would like to sponsor one of our bocce events or tournaments please let Mario, or one of us know. We would love to hear from you.

LaCarota Question

Last month we had another upset of the former champ. Congratulations to the new champ, Geno “BOOM BOOM” Benagni. Geno came in swinging, and was able to take home the “Holy Grail”. I’ve noticed that more and more of you are trying to open up the playing field, and be in the running. If you want a chance at winning then you have to play.

We’ll keep it in the Italian Christmas spirit of course. As we all know, “Panettone” is a very popular bread that is consumed by many Italians, especially around the Christmas season.

So, my question is: In what year was the “Panettone” 1st created and how did it get its name?

All correct answers that are emailed to me before the next meeting, will be entered to win the coveted bottle of Vino. You can’t win if you don’t play!

Final Thoughts

As we get through this next week and have the chance to celebrate Christmas Day with our family, friends and loved ones, let us try to keep in mind why we celebrate this day. The birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. Let’s try and remember to cherish your families and the time that you get to spend with them. Having dinner and enjoying each other’s company. Remember the people who are out there that aren’t as lucky as most of us. Let’s hope and pray that they can also celebrate this season. Also remember that you have the gift of this awesome club that we all belong to with your fellow “Club Paesano” family! I’m looking forward to this new year, some new things to come at the club and working with all of you to make our Club Paesano even better. Have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Buon Natale e un Felice Anno Nuovo
